About Mata Ki Chowki
What is Mata Ki Chowki?
Mata Ki Chowki is a special religious program in Hinduism where people gather to worship the Mother Goddess. She is also called Mata Rani, Durga Maa, Vaishno Devi, or Sherawali Maa.
In Hindu belief, the Mother Goddess is the symbol of love, strength, and protection. She is the one who looks after her children (devotees) and gives them the courage to face life.
The Sankalp passage is chanted, letting all hearts settle in prayer. Devotional verses on Mata’s grace warm the air, weaving the evening’s first calm. A flower-laden throne is lit by the fragrant flame of camphor, purifying all senses. From a hushed wooden bell, the first echo starts a gentle flow of joy. Devotee after devotee, garland in hand, recite the sacred Maat Ka Mantra, inviting the Goddess within this humble room. As her subjects, the children lead a quick, lively dance, swaying bells, clashing cymbals keep the circle bright. When the plate of sweets and batasha circles clockwise, the first footstep inside the mandir is for a serving to Mata Deviji, a vow that all joy will also serve her first. Then, poets in an open circle recount the marvels of her favours, the giver of sight, the healer of womb, the keeper of tides, each story a thin thread tying the household to the Divine. Finally, the floor is alive, a sparker of borrowed energy, the gift of successful swearing of a solemn hearty vow on the back of a ceremonial dance, ended in folded palms and the soft triumphant coo of song.
In the same spirit of devotion, families prepare their Satyanarayan Puja Invitation, a call to loved ones to join in prayer, celebration, and the divine blessings that bind every home with sacred joy.
